Abstract

This report summarizes a scramjet engine study carried out between 2007 and 2009 in collaboration with ONERA with the aim of studying fuel injection, mixing and selfignition in hydrogen with vitiated air. The scramjet technology is currently evolving rapidly and an additional motivation for us has been to assess the global technology evolution and to charter the technical challenges and what has been done to resolve these issues. The collaboration with ONERA has been mutually profitable as the numerical simulations performed at FOI have complemented the experimental studies performed at ONERA, and that ONERA has contributed significantly to our survey of technical advancements. During the course of the project a number of scientific papers, attached as appendices, have been presented and published.
