Abstract

A study has been performed to determine if there is any suitable equipment for use as non lethal weapons to warn or stop personnel and vehicles or disperse groups of people at a distance of 50-500 meters. In the report a summery of at the market available equipments is given together with a judgment of the potential and readiness of the different systems. The study has been performed as cooperation between FMV, FM and FOI. The opinion of the study group is that laser and acoustic weapons are the most suitable types of equipment for the Swedish defence to acquire. Both these types of equipment are primary meant for use in an early stage as warning, to assure that the aggressor is aware of that he or she can not continue the action. These equipments can be used at larger distances as a complement to the already existing non-lethal equipment. Cooperation with the authority that have the responsibility for non-lethal weapons systems in US, Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate, has been established.
