Abstract
This report is a part of the dissemination of the demonstrator project B AWARE - Demonstrator Avståndsindikering Etapp1. The proposed demonstrator for standoff detection of biological warfare agents was supposed to consist of two lidar systems (lidar = light detection and ranging, cf. radar) integrated on a platform. One lidar, with excitation at about 1.5 µm, is used for detection of aerosol clouds at a range up to 2 km, using elastic backscattering. The other lidar is for classification of the detected aerosol cloud using UV laser induced fluorescence at a range up to 1 km. The demonstrator should have a user interface that does not require detailed knowledge about the systems. The project goals were changed when the realisation phase was cancelled. Instead of building the demonstrator, the knowledge generated in the project was well documented in the end of this first phase. This report summarise the project history and activities, and refer to more detailed technical reports produced during the project. This report includes international cooperations, laser and detection developments, experimental trials and the work with the system requirements and specifications. Results, such as databases and simulation tools, are briefly described, as well as a general system specification meant to be used if a system should be built in the future. Some conclusions from the project and biological standoff are given at the end.
