Abstract
This report describes the current validation status of the main simulation models and components in MSSLab, and formulates a plan for further vali-dation of these. Different simulation programs are used in MSSLab (Multi-Sensor Simulation Lab) for simulation of different sensor systems. For acoustic simulations FOI AcousticSim is used, for ladar simulations FOI LadarSim, for EO / IR sensors SE-Workbench-EO and RadTherm IR, and for radar SE-Workbench-EM is used. The need and methods for validation of the models and components have been analyzed from a TRL-level perspective. Models and components on lower TRL-levels need to be validated with regard to physical and technical correctness, while those on higher TRL-levels can be validated with regard to system functions and information contents in the simulated signal data. The impact of different models and components on the result from the simu-lation of the different sensor systems has been reviewed. This has been done to be able to determine which parts that primarily can be improved to ad-vance the quality of the end result further. The report also describes what type of measurements is needed and how this data could be collected to en-able the validation of the simulation models. One conclusion of the work is that new measurement data are required for further validation. To obtain validation data of sufficient quality for further validation of laser and SAR models will be both difficult and relatively ex-pensive, since Sweden at the present lacks sensor systems with the appro-priate capabilities and performance needed. Another important task is to inventory existing material descriptions to ensure quality and traceability.
