Abstract

Requirements engineering is an important part in systems development. In the Swedish Armed Forces the requirement engineering aims to develop an Equipment Objectives Specification, also known as Tactical Technical Economic Objectives (TTEM). In requirements engineering only the simple formulation works, but the simplest thing is difficult to achieve. To set requirements for the Swedish Armed Forces equipment is a mission that requires planning. Parallel activities shall at predefined occasions coincide, iterative work shall be conducted and the result, the Equipment Objectives Specification, shall be based upon the Swedish Armed Forces' needs for capability, and lead to an understanding within Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the equipment to be procured. Everything should be achieved within set financial and time frames. This report describes eight principles for formulation of requirements. It describes how requirements with simple support, guidelines and checklists, can be formulated and reviewed in order for the requirements content to be clearly visible in the requirements document. With a narrow focus on formulation, at the point when the requirement is worded, a lot of time is gained for the later review, referral and determination of the requirements specification.
