Abstract

This study has been conducted as part of an ongoing project at the Swedish Defence Research Agency regarding the long term development of international strategic and operational logistics. The project aims to support the Swedish Armed Forces by linking knowledge, tools and experiences established in the civilian sector to the military. In this report experiences from the field of humanitarian logistics and the business sector are used to provide models on a strategic level for improving the coordination and cooperation of the Swedish Armed forces international operations regarding planning and executing logistics. From the case study we conclude there is a need to establish a comprehensive approach to logistics by making a priority of logistics leaders partaking in decisions and planning at a top level and at an early stage of an international operation. There is also a need to be more comprehensive and coordinated in terms of supply chain management and logistics at an operational level to enhance performance and reach financial goals.
