This report is the result of a study regarding the technical development within the area of wireless communications. The aim is to try to foresee the technical development within military tactical radio communications on the horizon of 10 to 15 years. We also study the development within the civilian mobile telephone area and what impact this development could have on tactical communications. The study is focused on the industrial development of tactical radio systems. The result from the study is that the military development and the civilian development will diverge, that is, the military side will not have so much benefit of the civilian development in the future. Some technical innovations from the civilian side can of course be used, but the big challenges at the military side, such as range and robust infrastructure will not be solved by the civilian side.
