Abstract
At the Air Combat Simulation Centre, FLSC, Swedish Air Force fighter pilots and air combat control units are trained in air combat. At FLSC it is possible to simultaneously use eight manned pilot stations during a training session. Before the Automated Computer Generated Forces, ACGF, was introduced at FLSC there was no possibility to use intelligent self-sustained computer generated enemy airplanes. To achieve realistic exercises some of the existing eight pilot stations had to be used to act as enemy planes. By introducing the ACGF functionality at FLSC it is now possible to setup more complex scenarios without the need to use manned pilot stations to act as enemy. The value of the training can therefore be substantially increased. The ACGF functionality is implemented in FOI's Merlin Defense Analyzer, MDA; it may therefore be used by other Department of Defense simulation facilities. Furthermore it would be a valuable asset if the training divisions could use a limited version of MDA to prepare their training sessions before they arrive at FLSC. By doing so, they can define scenarios according to their specific needs and thus improve their training efficiency even more. The introduction of the ACGF functionality in FLSC has been presented to the Swedish Air Force by giving them the possibility to use its functionality in training sessions during autumn 2013. By introducing this new tool we hope it will be used regularly by the Swedish Air Force from now on and in future training sessions.
