Abstract

The project "Launch and propulsion", funded by the Swedish Armed Forces, is a three year project which started in 2014. This annual report describes the project background and scope and presents briefly the work carried out in 2015. Work to develop an advanced CFD-based ballistics computing tool for guns continued during the year and the first simulations have been carried out. As a simulation test case Bofors 40 mm akan m / 70B was used. The results show the potential of CFD methodology to in detail describe the different processes that are relevant for propellant combustion in guns. A study of a conceptual foreign ballistic missile and a comparative study of ram and scram jet engines have been performed. In addition, composite propellants for tactical missiles have been studied. In the latter case, the work has been divided into several parts with a focus on experimental work and methods to improve the capability to manufacture composite propellants and rocket motors for ballistic experimental purposes.
