Abstract

The "Signature Materials" project has during 2014-16 monitored international and national, military and civilian developments in the fields of materials and technologies for signature management for the Swedish Armed Forces. The project has included measurements and evaluation of signature management using empirical and simulation methods. Several civilian advances in the field of materials science and technology are important for future signature management technologies, such as functional textiles, photonic crystals and biomimetic materials. Developments in sensor technology, including both new and improved sensor technologies such as advanced imaging algorithms contribute to raising the threat level and make new demands on signature management. This report lists areas where future technology monitoring should be intensified, and gives recommendations for further research. Through international contacts it is clear that several leading nations are raising the priority of signature management.
