Abstract
The project has had as a general goal to develop proposals for principles for managing and presenting information on personal command and control systems when used in combat. This report summarizes the projects field trials, longitudinal study and literature studies. In combat, radio is the most important tool for communication within the unit. The information that is needed continuously is intelligence information about the current area, the unit's mission, positions and directions for other units. Positioning with GNSS support provides faster and more accurate position determination than with a map and compass. This provides additional time for planning, moving and targeting. Positioning with GNSS support and a digital map facilitates primarily when moving in difficult and unknown terrain, in the dark and with scattered formation. The report also provides recommendations for the Swedish Armed Forces' future activities and further studies. For activities in the near future, it is recommended that handheld GPSs is provided at the group level, but that the soldier's education regarding navigation, positioning, and targeting still is based on traditional training with map and compass. Continuing studies should address augmented reality, automated and semi-autonomous systems and communications.
