Abstract

Horizon scanning aims at capturing current research conducted by various research organizations with potential applications within the defence and security domains. The scope is forward looking with a time perspective for future applications in a time frame of up to 25 years. The scanning results are evaluated regarding potential significance for the Swedish Armed Forces and suggestions for possible future applications are given. This report summarizes the activities of 2018. A major part of the project was performed in cooperation with the research organizations TNO (The Netherlands) and DRDC (Canada), within a project agreement. In the cooperation project, there was a focus on development of methods for impact assessment of immature technologies (low TRL level), and tests of these approaches. FOI's tool for automatic scanning of databases, HSTOOL, which includes automatic clustering and detection of cluster keywords has been updated. Project members have participated in other foresight activities at FOI and within EDA and NATO. Those are briefly described.
