Abstract
This report investigates the possibility of covert target location determination in the wavelength band 2-2.5 µm. Laser warning systems usually lacks coverage in this wavelength band and cameras operating in SWIR are often not sensitive to wavelengths longer than 2 µm. This means that it would be possible to measure, for example, distances by using lasers with relative high pulse energy with a wavelength where very few systems have detection capability. The report studies atmospheric transmission characteristics, surface reflection properties of different surfaces and possible components for transmitters and receivers in an envisioned system. A number of possible configurations are studied and performance calculations are performed. These are compared with systems using 1.06 or 1.5 µm, which are the dominant wavelengths today. The work is carried out in the FoT project "Laser i telekrigstillämpningar" within FoT-Telekrig (AF 922.0815, Telekrig 18).
