Abstract

Obtaining connectivity in mobile tactical ad hoc networks utilizing wideband waveforms (WBWF) is challenging. To achieve adequate connectivity, extra system components may be required to bridge the gap between disjoint network fragments. In this report, we analyze the effects of combing a WBWF with a narrowband waveform (NBWF) using OLSR. Our results show that there are scenarios where a NBWF can provide benefit to the network connectivity but we also show that this is highly dependent on how many of the nodes are equipped with the NBWF. Furthermore, we show, that the capacity of the used NBWF is not sufficient to handle the overhead of a standard routing protocol such as OLSR.
