Abstract

Within the research program for weapons and protection 2020-2022, a requirement analysis concerning modelling of vulnerability and lethality assessments of naval warfare has been performed. The aim of the requirement analysis was to identify specific areas in the context of assessment of naval warfare that would benefit from dedicated research efforts. The analysis is based on discussions from two seminars, in which various staff from the various research projects presented previous and planned work in the naval warfare assessment domain. Further, various requirements were presented and discussed. The requirements are compiled in this report, and they can be summarised into four main topics: Studies of weapons effects, and which effects are most beneficial for naval warfare Knowledge of ship construction, and modelling of ships and their attributes Definition of kill criteria (out of action, etc.) Cooperation, exchange of knowledge and a holistic perspective, between the research projects and externally With few exceptions, this requirement analysis is focused on aspects of warhead/target interaction. Launching and delivery of the weapon systems is thus not included as a primary aspect.
