Abstract

This report covers how parts of the fascist and national socialist movements have approached issues concerning nature, the climate, ecology and the environment, historically and in present times. These movements have frequently linked green issues with racial ideology and racism. In recent years a number of terrorist attacks have been carried out by individuals motivated by green fascism and conspiracy theories concerning the doom of the white race. Furthermore, militant fascist groups who refer to themselves as eco-fascists, and who wish to accelerate societal collapse through terrorist attacks, have recruited individuals throughout the world, including in Sweden. In the beginning of 2021, two young men with connections to eco-fascism, were prosecuted in Sweden for arson. The Corona pandemic seems to have been particularly favourable for the spread of, among other things, green fascist ideas in various contexts. In combination with conspiracy theories that are built on a doomsday narrative, these ideas seem to function as a unifying and mobilizing force, resulting in strengthened alliances between radical groupings during the pandemic.
