Abstract
Two canonical flows have been investigated in the present study, that is channel flow and axial flow along a cylinder. The main focus of this study was to investigate the properties of the pressure fluctuations. There are many applications where a deep knowledge of the turbulent pressure fluctuations on the surface is of great importance, such as towed sonar systems and radiated sound. Investigation using LES have been performed for two different Reynolds numbers for both channel and cylinder flows, Re=1000 och 2000. Also, two different cylinder radius to boundary layer thickness ratios have been simulated. The results show that, in the investigated Re-intervall, both the magnitude of the pressure fluctuations and the correlation lengths for the pressure decrease with an increasing curvature. The simulation results have also been compared to semi-empirical models for pressure fluctuation magnitude and spectrum.
