Abstract
Four Split-X models of warheads in four mass classes 10, 20, 70 and 200 kg has been created. A 10 kg warhead model with one layer of cubic fragments of mass 6 g (9.14 mm) which gives a reasonable length-to-diameter ratio. The 10 kg warhead model was scaled a factor of 2 and 3 to represent larger warheads with 8 and 27 times the mass. The number of layers then became 2 and 3 with the same 6 g cube. To better agree with the desired mass classes the scaled warheads were reduced in length to get masses of 70 and 200 kg. The 20 kg warhead could not be designed using the 6 g cube. It was hence decided to scale the 10 kg warhead model by a factor 21/3 = 1.26 and use a cubic fragment with the mass 12 g with side length of 11.5 mm. The cases in the Split-X models are notched and the explosive PBXN-110. All four Split-X models has been used to define generic missile warhead descriptions for AVAL.°.
