Abstract

During the covid-19 pandemic, Swedish industry mobilised in order to meet the increased demand for medical goods and personal protective equipment. Drawing upon the lessons of the pandemic, this study examines industrial mobilisation as a tool for preventing, handling or mitigating the effects of a crisis. Information has been gathered primarily from Swedish businesses and trade organisations, but also to a lesser extent from public sector organisations. The aim has been to identify the factors that have made businesses willing and able to repurpose their manufacturing lines. The study identifies several factors that influence whether industrial mobilisation is a viable option for handling supply chains disruptions.
