Abstract

This report presents an analysis on existing and future hydrogen-powered energy backup systems in a military environment. The study evaluates different kinds of fuel cells and electrolyzers, commercially available products, transportation and hydrogen storage from a safety perspective. Moreover, visits at research institutes and meetings with commercial interests are reported. Finally, a brief cost-analysis of a hydrogen-powered backup system is presented, based on criteria specified by the client, together with future research needs connected to the implementation of hydrogen-powered backup systems in military applications.
