Abstract

With the limited frequency resources available for tactical radio communications, it would be desirable if multiple battalion networks could use the same frequency set. However, using the same frequencies could result in interferences when multiple battalions are located in close proximity to each other. To investigate the effect of interference from multiple battalion networks using frequency-hopping wideband waveforms on the UHF band, which are using the same frequency sets, network simulations of two scenarios have been performed: one where one battalion is relieving another battalion in its battle position, and one with a battalion that is stretched out close to a more densely grouped battalion. In both cases a frequency-hopping waveform based on synchronized cooperative broadcast (SCB) has been simulated and evaluated for different numbers of available frequency channels. The results show that if the system is configured with enough available frequency channels, the interference has a relatively small effect on the communication networks.
