Abstract

The Swedish Armed Forces will undergo a digital transformation in the coming years, where data-driven information management will be a central part. There are huge benefits to gain; better situational awareness, partially automated information management and accelerated decision-making process are just a few examples of the unrealized potential. A determinant of success in this context is the establishment of preconditions to facilitate the implementation of AI-based decision support in relevant sectors of defence operations. This report summarizes the result from a two-year study in this area, commissioned by the Swedish Armed Forces. By describing how data-driven information management can be applied within a pilot project in the Swedish Armed Forces' operations, the report attempts to explain how AI can be used to support the day-to-day operations in Joint Forces Command. The study has also had a certain focus on identifying the essential organizational and cultural changes as a prerequisite for the digital transformation and a brief description of how other military organizations plan to tackle these challenges is also given.
