Abstract
In this report, a study commissioned by the Swedish Armed Forces in support of the Main Study Air, is presented. The task is to analyse Sweden's contribution to future air operations in the next 20 years within the framework of Sweden's NATO membership and within the assumed development of Nordic defence cooperation. Sweden's NATO accession means that the focus has shifted to carrying out operations together within the alliance. Largely, operations in the air domain will be focused on creating air operational control in Sweden's immediate area, while Sweden needs to be protected against long-range weapons. The armed forces must be able to solve tasks within a NATO-led operation, in a coalition and individually. Sweden's focus will likely remain the northeastern part of Europe, but Sweden must also be able to contribute to operations throughout NATO's area of operations and beyond. Capability development within the Nordic Air Power Concept will provide the conditions for solving tasks jointly in the Nordic region in the air domain, even if a NATO-led operation has not yet been activated.
