This report is intended to give an overview of nuclear weapons effects, with an emphasis on the medical care requirements resulting from nuclear attacks in the vicinity of cities. By using an example, the estimated casualties as well as the types of injuries sustained are illustrated. The intention is to give an overarching picture of the medical care burden resulting from a nuclear attack. The report also summarises possible mitigating actions of responders and population during and after a nuclear attack.
