Glimt — Our new weapon

Glimt is a project driven by FOI on behalf of the Swedish government. The initiative is being carried out in close cooperation with Ukrainian authorities. The project’s premise is that, by using collective intelligence as a weapon, we can together create a safer, secure, and more predictable world.

Glimt is part of Sweden’s support for Ukraine. It is a digital platform where individuals from around the globe can contribute to Ukraine’s defence efforts. The platform’s purpose is to assist Ukrainian decision-making both in the short and long term.

“Glimt” is a Swedish word that means “a glimpse, a flash, a sudden insight,” which we think fits perfectly with our hopes for this project.

As a user of Glimt, you can respond to questions about potential future events by estimating their likelihood. These questions are provided by Ukraine.

Crowd forecasting — A proven method for assessing the future

FOI has been conducting research into crowd forecasting for several years. This well-established method is used to make predictions about everything from political developments to economic trends.

By collecting and weighing assessments from a large group of participants, forecasts become highly accurate, particularly over time. Participants who consistently provide precise judgements are weighted more heavily. This ensures the platform is continuously optimised, improving the precision of collective predictions.

Research has shown that forecasts generated through crowd forecasting can, in many cases, outperform the judgements of individual experts.

How Glimt supports Ukraine

Glimt’s goal is to deliver the most accurate possible forecasts of how the future may unfold. These forecasts can help Ukraine adapt to the evolving geopolitical environment, enhancing its success in defending against Russian aggression. The insights generated by Glimt can serve as a critical foundation for Ukrainian strategic planning.
