Military Expenditure in the Baltic

A new FOI Memo describes the military expenditure trends in the Baltic Sea states. The overview also presents projections until 2020.

Baltic Sea

The study describes the development of military expenditures in nine countries, the Baltic Sea states plus Norway, but exclusive of Russia. The study addresses the trends in military expenditures in both real terms as well as in terms of their share of Gross Domestic Product, GDP, in the nine countries.

In Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania both military expenditures and their share of GDP are increasing. In Norway and Poland both the military expenditures and the GDP-share are stable. In Sweden, military expenditures increase, but their GDP-share decreases. In Finland and Germany, military expenditures are stable but their GDP-share decreases. In Denmark both military expenditures and their GDP-share are decreasing.
