Abstract

The project Seamine detection and disposal has been carried out during the years 2002-2004. Four different technical areas were treated: hydroacoustical, electromagnetical and optical methods of mine detection and methods of mine disposal. Within hydroacoustics, new equipment and new computer based algorithms for mine classification are developed. The equipment and the algorithms were demonstrated in a sea trial at the bay of Möja Söderfjärd where a partly buried box constituted the target. The electromagnetic part of the project, including a survey of the area of metal and mine detectors, produced an investigation concerning active electromagnetic methods for seamine detection. The optic area concerns seamine detection with different types of laser techniques where a laser is used as a light source for airborne or underwater detection systems. Finally the activity in the seamine disposal area is reported, where the disposal technique for seamine with shaped charges is developed through calculations and trials.
