Abstract

The report presents an extensive compilation analysis of reflections and lessons learned that mainly the US,UK and Australia have presented related to some of the larger military operations during the last decade. The main focus is on Operation Iraqi Freedom. The superior strength of the coalition forces should make one careful about drawing too many conclusions based only on this operation. Nevertheless, there are several interesting trends that have been confirmed and a number of lessons learned that have been made, which are of great interest for the Swedish Armed Forces. Lessons learned related to expeditionary and coalitionary operations, asymmetric conflicts in an urban environment and technology development are analyzed. The extensive compilation is detailed in a number of areas of special interest. The conclusions highlights logistics, strategic lift, doctrinary and technological interoperability, "3-block-war", MOUT and digitisation.
