Abstract
This report presents the results of a project, for the National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS), in which VolP is studied from a vulnerability perspective. The aim of the project has en to study vulnerabilities of VolP and the possible consequences for society that the transition to VolP will have. Another goal has been to identify issues in the area that needs further attention or deeper studies. Within the project three main areas were studied; power reserves, information security and e¨mergency calls. The traditional circuit-switched telephony has been well provided with power reserves and has therefore largely been avaiable also during power black-outs. VolP can be seen as a service among others in computer networks. This also means that VolP is exposed to electronic attacks. A way of protecting VolP traffic is to separate it logically from other data traffic in the network. Not all VolP services offer emergency call services and localization of emergency calls is sometimes problematic: Three scenarios are also presented; the purposes of the scenarios are to illustrate possible consequences of a transition to VolP.
