The purpose of the study is to analyse the developed Petersberg tasks, which means the crisis management tasks that are listed in the draft of the European Union´s new constitution and in the European Security Strategy. Since the crisis management tasks aren´t defined in the documents, different interpretations of the wording are possible. The main aim of the study is therefore to try to define in greater detail what kind of operations that is possible to carry out within the ESDP framework. The aim is also to analyse what kind of operations that are the most likely to be carried out considering the different member states´ political priorities and the division of roles among EU and crisis management organisations such as the UN, NATO and OSCE.
