Abstract
The "Ontologier - Logistik" project has explored the benefits of ontologies in enabling interoperability between systems in the logistic domain. More specifically, the integration of information from heterogeneous sources using ontologies and semantic web services has been covered. During 2004 a prototype demonstrating the use of semantic web services was developed. This prototype has been extended during 2005. Based on experiences from developing the prototype, it can be concluded that the semantic web, and especially technologies for semantic web services, are powerful in enabling efficient service oriented architectures and system interoperability. However, much of the development associated with the semantic web is still at the stage of research, and therefore few commercial products and solutions exist. This will most probably change as the semantic web and its related technologies have attracted great attention lately as people are beginning to see the benefits of it. Thus, it is of importance to follow the advancements in this area in the future in order for the Swedish armed forces to benefit from its great potential.
