Abstract

QATEP (Quick Access Target Eye Pointer) was a project within the Swedish National Program for Aviation Research (Nationellt Flygforskningsprogram, NFFP), funded by VINNOVA (ref no 2009-01358), which ran from February 2010 to September 2012. During the project the QATEP concept was developed and evaluated by FOI, Milso AB and Smart Eye AB. The QATEP concept is based on the last years' significant development of eye-tracking systems. The project has, based on Swedish cutting edge technology from Smart Eye AB, developed a prototype system that demonstrates the potential of eye-tracking for target designation applications. The present report is the final report from the project and describes the development efforts. The report provides a brief description of the QATEP concept, descriptions of the deliverables from the project and the results of an experiment that was conducted in FLSC (The Swedish Airforce Combat Simulation Centre). The results from the experiment clearly show the possibilities of very quick target designation and lock-on with the QATEP system. Finally a number of recommendations for further development of the innovative QATEP-system are provided.
