Abstract
The project "Bistatic and passive radar" has been conducted during a three-year period. The aim of the project has been to increase the knowledge of bistatic and passive radar, i.e. radar systems with transmitter and receiver located on geographically separated platforms. The passive system, which lacks its own transmitter, makes use of noncooperative transmitters of opportunity such as DVB-T. Applications of bistatic and passive radar exist in all combat arenas, especially where situational awareness is desired while radio frequency transmission silence is of the utmost importance. We have, in real-life, demonstrated unique results of using both bistatic and passive airborne SAR (imaging synthetic aperture radar). The project is part of a long-term development of experimental radar systems that now has been extended with new subsystems. Experiments with bistatic radar at S-band have, however, not been possible to conduct as originally planned.
