Abstract

FOI was by the Swedish Armed Forces (SwAF) given an assignment to support their evaluation of the Battlefield Management System (BMS) that the ground forces are introducing. The purpose is to give the SwAF better information for prioritization of further development of the BMS. The assignment have included planning, preparation, and execution of a series of laboratory and field trials. The main focus have been the study of how the SwAF's new radio system, Radio 570, function together with the other BMS subsystems, specifically the two C2-applications, SitaWare Frontline and SLB SW. The trial campaign concluded with a major field trial based on the conditions for a mechanized infantry battalion, covering tactical advancement and coordinated assault. A considerable amount of data have been collected during the trials and only a part of these have so far been analyzed. The conclusions from such analysis shows how important it is to make these types of major field trials with a complete BMS as a complement to the verification studies of its' components.
