Abstract
Loitering munitions were developed in the 1980s for combating air defense systems. Since then, loitering munitions have been developed for combating other targets, such as personnel and vehicles. There is no well-established definition of loitering munitions, but the term is used for weapon systems that have an integrated warhead and are capable of traversing slowly while waiting for targets to become visible and combat decisions to be made. The interest in loitering munitions has increased due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This report aims to support the Swedish Armed Forces in a possible acquisition of loitering munitions by describing the automatic functions in the loitering munitions of today and predicting which automatic functions that possibly could emerge in the future.
