Abstract
The trend towards text-based electronic media has undergone a rapid change, although pen and paper still play an important role. Many scientific studies have examined the benefits of taking notes by hand compared to using a computer, but the results have been varied. However, it is clear that the movements of the hand are linked to learning and memory. The study in this report aims to evaluate the reMarkable 2 e-reader, writing and drawing tablet, which is found in a usage segment somewhere between pen/pad and a typical tablet. The reMarkable-tablet is designed to mimic the feeling of writing on paper, a feature that distinguishes it compared to other tablets. The study covered the tablet's functionality for writing, reading and menu management, as well as its design and user experience. The results showed that the tablet is characterized as easy to use and carry. The participants were generally very positive about the tablet and its potential uses. Examples of applications include office work, research and in military contexts it can be used to support staff work. There are potentially many applications for such a product provided it meets basic usability requirements, which in this case also includes robustness, form factor and cybersecurity.
