Abstract
Military operations in the future will probably to an increasing extent be performed in urban environments. The radio systems used must be robust and independent of a permanent infrastructure. This also includes the communication systems for civil authorities within the total defence. To meet the need of new knowledge regarding radio wave propagation in urban environments, a cooperation with Lund University, LTH, has been initiated. This concerns above all radio channel measurements with a MIMO (Multiple Input - Multiple Output) Channel Sounder. With this measurement system the radio channel can be characterized in three different frequency bands that will be significant for future military and public radio systems. The measurement results can be used to build and verify channel models for radio systems with advanced antenna arrays. The Channel Sounder will be delivered to Lund University during spring 2004 and the aim with this report is to describe the system and its potential use.
