Abstract
Using linear programming, the intake and outflow of officers in the Swedish Armed Forces is modeled. The model is used to optimize the size of the intake, promotion and volume of officers. The focus lies on the entire SWAF, but the model might also be used to study a service branch or smaller military unit. Suggestions on how to estimate the variables needed in the model are given. During the work the need to model the outflow of officers caused by retirement arose. Because of this, a model for tracking the retirement of officers is also included.
