Abstract

The project has been carried out mainly as a method development project to create a broader and deeper scientific basis for assessment of health threats. Methods are developed for use by the Swedish Armed Forces and other civilian organizations, which are engaged in international missions, when there is a need for higher quality health threat assessments. We can conclude that the knowledge of the health threats that the project has been studied; industries, air pollution and climatic factors, and tools that have been developed, have continuously been applied in the MedIntel-work throughout the project period. The benefit for the Swedish Armed Forces has been both strategic and operational, e.g. Mali and other missions, and FOI's expertise has increased significantly in these areas. The assessed threats to health in the areas of investment have been presented in a different way, with higher precision, more relevance, and with higher spatial and temporal resolution than before. The databases and tools the project so far has identified, developed, and used by the project have led to a better understanding and provides the basis for improved health threat assessments for the short and long term.
